Jerome Fernando

Jerome Fernando is a Filipino Canadian industrial designer who uncovers patterns in everyday life by translating complex systems into approachable objects and experiences. With a background in Information Systems, he brings a systems-thinking mindset to his work by breaking complexity into human-scale interactions. He is especially drawn to florals for their temporality and sensory richness, and to toys for their playful ability to make difficult ideas feel approachable. His practice explores where play and ephemerality meet, using both to make systems easier to understand and care about.

Translators
A Catalyst for Biophilic Experiences Between Humans and Plants
Project Description
Translators is a system designed to address common pain points in plant care. It consists of a physical translator that provides visual outputs to create clearer cues about a plant’s needs, and a digital app for tracking plant care. Translators help you identify behavioral patterns that can be difficult to pinpoint over time, making the plant-care experience more empathetic and informative.
