Exploring Fabric as a New Medium for Musical Interfaces

Weaving Sound explores how soft textile structures can enable more expressive and embodied digital music performance. It addresses the limitation of rigid, planar MIDI controllers that restrict bodily engagement and tactile feedback. By integrating knitted stretch sensors and capacitive touch into a wearable sleeve interface, the system translates deformation and gesture into sound control. This approach introduces a more intuitive, performative interaction, emphasizing material responsiveness, unpredictability, and the intimate connection between body, fabric, and music.
