Joseph Benanti is a Brooklyn-based industrial designer focused on reframing everyday objects through form, material, and perception. His work explores how design can influence behavior and reshape cultural narratives, from destigmatizing portable asthma devices to developing objects that exist seamlessly between utility and environment. With a background in fabrication and electronics, including CNC machining, 3D printing, and embedded systems, he approaches design through iterative prototyping and hands-on experimentation. His practice operates across scales, blending technical precision with conceptual storytelling to create objects that feel both familiar and quietly disruptive

Destigmatizing Portable Asthma Devices

Project Description

Redesigning Relief is a family of portable asthma devices reimagined as lifestyle objects rather than clinical tools. Existing inhalers and nebulizers visually signal illness, causing users to delay or avoid public treatment, stigma that worsens adherence and health outcomes. By drawing from the material language of consumer electronics, cosmetics, and everyday carry, this project reframes asthma care as something that belongs on a desk, in a purse, or on a nightstand. Each prototype targets a different environment of use, proving that form alone can shift behavior and restore confidence in public medication.
