Adaptive Clothing

For Persons with Limited Mobility

Project Description

This thesis explores how adaptive clothing can support individuals with limited mobility by improving the independence of dressing. Focusing on both fastening systems and garment construction, the project investigates how traditional clothing creates barriers due to tight openings and complex closures that require strength and precision. Through research and prototyping the work develops alternative fastening methods and a side opening garment that reduces the need for overhead movement and allows the clothing to wrap around the body. The design emphasizes easy alignment, less grip strength, and comfort while maintaining a non-medical, unisex aesthetic.
